ONSHŪKAI
"Onshū" means to practice repeatedly or to review something over and over. From this meaning, the Onshūkai has come to refer to a performance in which geiko and maiko present the results of their training in dance and music. Organized by Gion Kōbu, it is held for six days each October as a cherished autumn tradition, alongside the spring Miyako Odori.
The venue is the Kōbu Kaburenjō, which underwent a major renovation in 2023 and was beautifully reborn while preserving its rich heritage. With Kyo-mai dance of the Inoue school and ensemble music (subayashi), geiko and maiko invite you into a world where the traditions of Gion Kōbu continue to thrive. Please enjoy this world, woven with daily dedication.
